- The first letter of the Greek Alphabet (A, α), transliterated as ‘a.’
- Alpha (α), used in finance as a measure of the performance, is the excess return of an investment relative to the return of a benchmark index. An alpha of 1% means the investment’s return on investment over a selected period of time was 1% better than the market during that same period.
- Having the highest rank in a dominance hierarchy: the alpha male/female of an animal pack.
